How to Get Your Home Ready for Spring
Let's face it, Winter is an emotional rollercoaster. With the decline in temperature, the effects of those overindulgent Christmas festivities, and the added pressure of New Year resolutions, this season can be a drag.
But, with brighter mornings and longer evenings, spring is finally on the horizon. In this month’s post we are focusing on how updating your home interiors can get you out of that winter rut and welcome the new season.
New House Plants
When we talk about spring, words like fresh, floral and cheery come to mind. Foliage is a great first step to incorporate some fresh spring vibes into your home.
From low-maintenance cactuses* to a stylish Monstera (aka the Swiss cheese plant), there are plants to suit everyone, whether you're green fingered or not. Indoor plants don't just add a pop of colour to a dreary room or fill a bleak corner, they can be a subtle way of adding some life into your home, without going over the top with expensive flowers.
What's also great is that house plants are known to reduce stress levels and create a feeling of wellbeing. Plants such as succulents and cactuses are low maintenance, cheap, and readily available to buy. So head to your nearest garden centre or plant shop, and gather your favourite new plant friends!

Invest in New Art
A lot of the time we see wall art as an afterthought when re-designing interiors when, in fact, art can have a huge impact on the overall emotion of a room. Certain art can remind us of certain times, places, or memories. A piece of art can be the statement piece of a room and can actually form the colour scheme for everything else in it.
Art doesn't have to be a picture within a frame, you can create numerous everyday objects into pieces of art like free-standing baskets, hats or even clocks. This is a great way of creating space for those miscellaneous objects that you don't always have a home for.

Interior design isn't just about what you see and how it makes you feel – our sense of smell has a powerful link to our emotions and feelings. Certain smells can create the perfect atmosphere to reflect day, night, or even seasons.
Although it may sound obvious, the first step to neutralising your home scent is opening the windows. There is just something about the crisp breeze that can change the emotion in your home, eliminating any stuffiness, and leaving the room feeling bright and fresh.
Diffusers are also a great way of introducing scents. We love how delicate and non-intrusive diffusers are. Scents such as clean linen, lavender, vanilla and sweet tea are great, neutral, everyday house smells that remind us of spring.

Pops of Colour
Here at Devonshire Tea, we love colour. No doubt you can tell from our packaging and the photos we share that our eye is always drawn to bright, vibrant colours. We love the turn of spring as the flowers start to bloom and the trees start to replenish their leaves, replacing browns and greys with lively greens and yellows.
Adding pops of colour to your interiors is a great way of mirroring spring inside your home. Colours such as pinks, greens, and yellows are perfect spring colours that will bring life and vibrancy to any room. Bright, colourful and patterned cushions, blankets, and throws are cost-effective ways of adding new features to a neutral canvas.

We are all creatures of habit — we hate the idea of changing things and, although it can feel like a daunting exercise, you will be thanking us later.
Rearranging furniture is one of the easiest ways to give your own home a spruce without needing to spend a penny. It can make a room feel bigger and, who knows, you might find those long lost keys you thought you would never see again!
Rearranging your kids' rooms can also be a resourceful exercise — it's the perfect opportunity to get rid of those toys that have seen the light of day lately!
